LECTURE

Advanced Implantology: bone remodeling, membranes, periosteal mobilization, piezoelectric surgery, sinus floor elevation, ridgesplit and use of Plateled Rich Fibrin

In the fifth module, we will focus on the more complex aspects within implantology, namely hard tissue reconstruction. When a tooth is missing for an extended period of time, a horizontal and/or vertical defect may develop that makes placement of an implant in bone impossible. The jaw must then first be built up so that implantation can be done after the bone has healed. Alternatively, rebuilding can be done at the same time as placing the implant. We will discuss in which cases which option can be chosen. We will cover different bone substitutes and membranes used in bone remodeling. After bone remodeling, soft tissue must also be mobilized to close the wound.

Sinus floor elevation, as well as the technique for opening an access hatch, is discussed in detail in this module, as is the use of piezoelectric surgery. Alternatively, crestal sinus floor elevation is explained, when it is and especially when it is not indicated. The latter can be used for multiple purposes used, such as harvesting and ridge splitting of bone. We will also discuss the benefits of using Platelet Rich Fibrin as an injectable and as a membrane. Hands-on training in venipuncture will also be offered.

HANDS ON

Continuing education credits: 6 CRT
