This pre-clinical study evaluates the tissue response to permamem\u00ae using a subcutaneous implantation model. Jason\u00ae membrane was used as control.<\/p>\n

Methods:<\/h3>\n

The membranes were implanted in surgically created subcutaneous pockets of mice. After 10 and 30 days, the implantation areas were explanted and analyzed histomorphometrically and immunohistochemically.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Results and conclusion:\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

permamem\u00ae evoked a tissue response that involved pro-(M1) and anti-inflammatory (M2) macrophages. The number of macrophages decreased between day 10 and 30. The tissue response, i.e. the cell numbers were comparable between permamem\u00ae and the collagen membrane Jason\u00ae membrane, arguing for the biocompatibility of the new synthetic membrane. Furthermore, no cell penetration or tissue ingrowth into the PTFE membrane were detected during the observation period.<\/span><\/p>\n

It can be concluded that based on its biocompatibility and excellent barrier function, permamem\u00ae may optimally support bone healing within the context of guided bone regeneration (GBR).<\/span><\/p>\n
