Boosting soft tissue regeneration: Using mucoderm® in periodontal plastic surgery

Achieving aesthetic excellence is the major aim across all areas of modern dentistry. With an increasing number biomaterials and surgical techniques to choose from, clinicians have more opportunities than ever to achieve the best results for their patients.

Questions such as when to use an autologous soft tissue graft and when to use an acellular dermal matrix for soft tissue augmentation are part of every esthetically focused doctor’s daily work.

While autologous soft tissue grafts are associated with numerous biological benefits, their harvesting requires the opening of a second surgical site. Additionally, the availability of autologous soft tissue is limited and may not be sufficient for the surgical needs.

In this first part of the trilogy, Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli introduces the topic of mucogingival esthetic surgery, highlighting his successful approach with autologous connective tissue. In addition, he illustrates the use and application of mucoderm® and the long-term outcome in multiple recession coverage.
