Peri-implant soft tissue augmentation with mucoderm® in the aesthetic zone: A 10-Year Follow-Up

Dr. Hassan Maghaireh

A patient presented with pronounced buccal soft tissue deficiency in the maxillary anterior aesthetic zone (tooth nr. 21 and 22), resulting in inadequate soft tissue volume and an unfavorable ridge contour. The primary treatment objective was to reconstruct the peri-implant soft tissue architecture and establish a harmonious, natural-looking emergence profile while ensuring long-term soft tissue stability.

During the surgical procedure, implants were placed at sites 11 and 22 without the need for bone augmentation. To simultaneously augment the deficient soft tissues, the native collagen matrix mucoderm® was positioned over the ridge and tucked beneath the soft tissues on both the buccal and palatal aspects to increase tissue thickness and compensate for the deficient ridge contour. The surgical site was stabilized with sutures and subsequently covered with the provisional bridge. The implants were allowed to heal for 12 weeks, with uneventful soft tissue healing.

At the 12-week follow-up, clinical evaluation demonstrated favorable soft tissue healing, successful integration of mucoderm® , and a noticeable increase in peri-implant soft tissue volume. Following the healing period, prosthetic rehabilitation was initiated, resulting in a harmonious emergence profile and favorable aesthetic integration. At the 10-year follow-up, stable peri-implant soft tissue architecture, well-maintained buccal tissue volume, and healthy peri-implant conditions were observed. Radiographic evaluation confirmed stable peri-implant bone levels, supporting the long-term stability of peri-implant soft tissue augmentation with mucoderm® in the aesthetic zone.
