Innovative Approaches to Buccal Wall Defects: The Shield Technique and the NOVAMag® Membrane Solution

Buccal wall defects present significant challenges in implant dentistry. The lack of adequate bone support in the buccal aspect can jeopardize the long-term success of implants, making it essential to address these defects effectively. A buccal bone thickness of less than 1.5 mm increases the risk of bone resorption and soft tissue recession, making it crucial to achieve at least this minimal thickness for effective implant integration and aesthetics. The Shield technique offers an innovative solution for managing both buccal and palatal wall defects. When combined with the fully resorbable NOVAMag® magnesium metal membrane, this technique not only improves the structural integrity of the augmented site but also streamlines the surgical process by eliminating the need for additional incisions and fixation, as well as the demand for membrane removal. This combination represents a significant advancement in clinical practice, providing a predictable and effective approach to preserving bone volume and ensuring successful implant outcomes.
