CLINICAL CASE
Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli & Dr. Dr. Martina Stefanini
Initial Situation
The patient presented with multiple adjacent gingival recession defects requiring predictable root coverage and soft tissue augmentation. These defects posed a challenge due to the extent and number of recessions, increasing the clinical difficulty of achieving long-term coverage and stable soft tissue volume.
Treatment
A coronally advanced flap procedure was performed in combination with mucoderm®, an acellular collagen matrix, and Straumann® Emdogain®, an enamel matrix derivative gel, applied to the exposed root surfaces before placement of the matrix. The approach aimed to enhance revascularization, support soft tissue regeneration, and increase gingival thickness without harvesting autologous connective tissue.
Results
The procedure resulted in successful root coverage and increased soft-tissue thickness that remained stable over a four-year follow-up period, demonstrating long-term clinical effectiveness of this combination therapy. Patients exhibited healthy peri-gingival tissue contours with maintained coverage and improved aesthetic outcomes compared to baseline.
