PROMPT-2-SHIELD

Large Language Models in Clinical Decision- Making for Alveolar Ridge Preservation – Hands-on Workshop with NOVAMag® SHIELD

Material innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital workflows are transforming reconstructive dentistry by enabling more precise, personalized, and predictable treatment strategies. At the same time, alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) remains one of the most extensively researched topics in implant dentistry; however there seems to be no clear consensus on optimal treatment protocols or on the classification of extraction defects. The integration of custom-trained large language models (LLMs) into clinical decision-making introduces a novel paradigm, allowing evidence- based recommendations tailored specifically to ARP scenarios. In advanced extraction defects, the reconstruction of the buccal wall plays a critical role in stabilizing the blood clot and maintaining the space required for regeneration.

The NOVAMag® magnesium membrane, characterized by its form-stable yet fully resorbable properties, provides an effective solution by supporting the soft tissue outside the bony envelope while gradually degrading within 4–6 months, eliminating the need for secondary removal.
This hands-on workshop focuses on the clinical application of the NOVAMag® SHIELD technique in alveolar ridge preservation, with emphasis on buccal wall reconstruction, space maintenance, and regenerative principles using the NOVAMag® magnesium membrane.
Custom-developed LLMs for ARP decision support will be introduced as adjunctive tools alongside AI-assisted diagnostics and digital planning. Through interactive, case-based exercises, participants will learn to apply the NOVAMag® SHIELD technique in daily practice, supported by AI-driven clinical recommendations.

Program Plan

In this section participants will receive a comprehensive picture of possible artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the field of reconstructive dentoalveolar and periodontal surgery. This session will address the classification of extraction defects and the clinical decision-making process for their management. The NOVAMag® SHIELD technique will be positioned among available therapeutic options.

I. Classification of extraction defects – (45 min)
Summary of various extraction defect classification systems

II. Possibilities for alveolar ridge preservation – (45 min)
Overview of surgical techniques and regenerative strategies.

III. Application of the NOVAMag® SHIELD technique (45 min)
Biological principals of magnesium-based biomaterials and
indications of the Shield technique.

IV. Role of AI in surgical decision making – (45 min)
Basics of AI technologies and their clinical applications,
with a particular focus on large language models.

Necessary equipment: Smart phone of the participants
