Clinical Challenge

The patient presented with a compromised maxillary central incisor in the esthetic zone associated with significant facial bone loss evident radiographically. Following extraction, a pronounced three-dimensional ridge defect was confirmed. The available bone volume was insufficient for implant placement, making ridge reconstruction necessary.

Regenerative Approach

Following flap elevation and preparation of the recipient site, the ridge was augmented with cerabone^®. A NOVAMag^® membrane was individually shaped to the defect and securely fixed, providing structural support.

The augmented area was additionally covered with a collprotect membrane and tension-free primary closure was achieved. The use of the resorbable magnesium membrane provided mechanical stability during the regenerative phase without requiring a later procedure for membrane removal as it is completely resorbable.

Re-entry and Implant Site Development

After four months of healing, CBCT imaging demonstrated a marked increase in ridge volume. Surgical re-entry confirmed substantial hard-tissue formation and sufficient ridge dimensions for implant placement.

The implant was placed within the reconstructed ridge. To optimize the facial soft-tissue contour in the esthetic zone, mucoderm^® was additionally placed for soft-tissue augmentation before wound closure.
