3D reconstruction of horizontal and vertical ridge deficiency: Techniques and approaches

Following tooth extraction, both hard and soft tissue changes occur during the healing phase, which can influence the timing and approach to implant placement. These changes often determine whether immediate, early, or delayed implant placement is the most appropriate. In cases of significant bone loss where delayed implant placement is necessary, Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) becomes a critical consideration. Depending on the severity of bone deficiency, GBR may be
indicated as follows:

Mild Bone Deficiency: GBR may be indicated to enhance soft tissue volume in certain cases, while the implant can still be placed in the ideal prosthetic position without additional bone augmentation.

Moderate Bone Deficiency: In these cases, GBR is utilized for both hard and/or soft tissue augmentation, ensuring that the implant can be placed in the ideal prosthetic position.

Severe Bone Deficiency: When significant bone loss is present, a more extensive GBR procedure is required to regenerate the bone. This process typically requires a healing period of approximately 9 months before implant placement can proceed.

Guided Bone Regeneration effectively restores bone volume and contour, creating an optimal foundation for dental implants while improving both functional and aesthetic outcomes.
