Regenerative periodontal surgery using Emdogain® (indications, techniques, long-term results) – WEBINAR


The introduction of enamel matrix proteins (Emdogain®) opened new ways in regenerative periodontal surgery.

It was scientifically shown that the application of these bioactive proteins could lead to new formation of the whole periodontium. The enamel matrix proteins that are involved in the natural development of the periodontium, are inducing biologic processes and mimic the natural formation of cementum and inserting fibres in early childhood. The regeneration with enamel matrix proteins is therefore fundamentally different from other periodontal techniques like the use of barrier membranes, bone grafts or bone substitutes. With combinations of these regenerative techniques we are nowadays able to successfully treat difficult cases of advanced periodontitis.

These techniques are not only used for intrabony defects, but also widely for plastic-esthetic periodontal surgery. In the field of mucogingival surgery, we have now much data from controlled, long-term studies and we are able to talk of an evidence-based technique. Long-term studies are of particular importance for pros and contras of a method because the success in our daily practice is very much dependent on the long-term outcome. The decision for regenerative treatment in a specific case should be based on scientific data but also on the local situation and the clinical experience.

Learning Objectives:

The webinar will focus on the concept of periodontal regeneration with enamel matrix proteins and will intensively show the clinical applications in bony defects, furcation defects and mucogingival problems.
