CASE OF THE MONTH | 10/2026
DR. FERNANDO ROJAS-VIZCAYA
The initial clinical situation presented a vertical root fracture of molar #36, associated with a missing buccal bone wall. Following atraumatic tooth extraction, socket preservation was performed to maintain the ridge architecture and support future implant rehabilitation.
A collprotect® membrane was positioned inside the extraction socket using the ice cream cone technique, with the membrane lining and extending beyond the buccal defect to recreate and stabilize the missing wall.
The socket was then filled with cerabone®, a pure bovine bone substitute characterized by long-term volume stability, slow resorption, reliable space maintenance, and a porous structure supporting bone ingrowth and integration.
Finally, the grafted socket was completely covered with the collprotect® membrane , providing protection and stabilization of the augmentation site, followed by final suturing to secure the membrane and soft tissues.
After 3 months, the clinical situation showed sufficient bone volume for implantation. Clinical and radiological follow-up after 2 and 14 years showed successful outcome with stable bone and soft tissue.
