Allogenic Bone Grafts in Daily Practice – Allogenic Shell Technique Course

This course is designed for dentists, periodontologists, oral surgeons, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons who wish to expand their expertise in implantology, with a particular focus on augmentative surgical procedures.

Allogenic bone grafts have become a cornerstone of modern reconstructive surgery due to their versatility and proven effectiveness in promoting bone regeneration. They represent a reliable alternative to autogenous bone and increasingly challenge it as the gold standard in augmentative procedures. By eliminating the need for a second surgical site, allogenic grafts significantly reduce patient morbidity associated with bone harvesting.

Advances in processing techniques—including demineralization, freeze-drying, and sterilization—have substantially improved the safety profile of allogenic bone grafts. These innovations minimize the risk of disease transmission and immunogenic reactions, making allogenic materials a predictable and safe choice in daily clinical practice.

maxgraft® is available in a wide range of forms, including granules, blocks, and cortical plates. The selection of the appropriate modality depends on the augmentation technique as well as the size and morphology of the defect. Among these techniques, the shell technique developed by Prof. Khoury has become an increasingly established standard for bone augmentation. It combines the advantages of guided bone regeneration (GBR) and block augmentation. The use of allogenic cortical plates not only avoids donor site morbidity but also ensures immediate availability without quantity limitations.

Course Objectives:

  • Introduction to allogenic bone grafts: origin, safety, and clinical application
  • Decision-making pathways for selecting appropriate augmentation techniques
  • Bone augmentation using the shell technique: principles and step-by-step
  • Complication management: identification, prevention, and clinical handling
