Hard and soft tissue augmentation in the aesthetic zone

LECTURE ABSTRACT
Lateral and vertical bone defects are amongst the most challenging procedures in implantology in order to achive satisfactory and safe regeneration. Various techniques have been described in the literature to increase the bone volume which includes autogenous or artificial bone grafting procedures. The shell technique is a typical method for hard tissue augmentation. The conceptof the shell technique relies on the preparation of a biological container, which creates the necessary space for the full incorporation of the particulate bone graft material.
Block augmentation is a technique developed for the reconstruction of severely resorbed alveolar ridges or for the regeneration of complex defects. Ridge splitting technique is used to increase the width of bone by splitting and expansion of the exsisting residual ridge.
Sinus lift is a surgical technique that aims to thicken an atrophic sinus floor. Access to the sinus cavity is gained by preparing a window. After detaching the Schneidarian membrane, space between the membrane and the sinusfloor is filled with a bone graft material. The treatment of gingival recession through the creation of a tunnel beneath the buccal mucosa allows coronal repositioning the soft tissue with predictable root coverage and aesthetics. The use of accelular dermal matrix permits grafting of multiple sites without the need for a donor tissue.
