Clinical update on reconstructive periodontal surgery
The destruction of periodontal tissues occurring during the course of periodontitis can impair masticatory function and aesthetics. In order to help patients to save periodontally compromised teeth and to improve aesthetics, a variety of regenerative/reconstructive therapies have been developed over the past decades. Today, periodontal regeneration is considered a predictable procedure for the treatment of deep pockets associated with intrabony defects. Moreover, reconstructive techniques can be successfully used to correct recession type defects and augment the zone of keratinized tissue around teeth and implants.
This presentation will focus on clinical performance of various biomaterials and techniques used for periodontal regeneration and esthetic root coverage procedures.
Current trends in periodontal plastic surgery
The hands-on workshop is designed to acquire in-depth knowledge about novel materials and techniques used for esthetic root coverage procedures.
Topics:
- Basic and advanced surgical techniques for esthetic root coverage
- Autogenous tissue harvesting (Free gingival grafts, Connective tissue grafts)
- Use of soft tissue substitutes for root coverage alone or in combination with enamel matrix derivative
- Choice of sutures, different suturing techniques
