Sandra Wrobel – World of botiss biomaterials – the carefree package for every clinical situation

Today, biomaterials play an essential role in dental hard and soft tissue regeneration. The overall goal is to provide functional restoration that is in harmony with the adjacent natural dentition, which also satisfies the rising aesthetic needs of the patients. In her lecture, Dr. Sandra Wrobel will give an overview of what can be achieved with which biomaterial combination (xenogeneic, synthetic or allogenic), focusing on the specific properties and benefits. Furthermore, the innovative highlights that are coming up will be introduced.

Leonardo Trombelli – Single Flap Approach – a simplified procedure for periodontal regeneration

Deep intrabony defects represent a challenge for the clinician as they can lead to tooth loss if not treated properly. Over the past years, various approaches have emerged, aiming to improve the clinical conditions of the tooth affected by the lesion. The single flap approach (SFA) in combination with regenerative devices is a simplified surgical procedure to effectively treat deep intrabony defects while minimizing surgical trauma and post-surgical complications.
In this lecture, Prof. Dr. Leonardo Trombelli, an expert of the SFA procedure, presents its indications and surgical protocol highlighting the fundamental steps of the technique in combination with Straumann® Emdogain® and botiss biomaterials.

Viktor Kalenchuk – Selection of techniques and biomaterials for augmentation in daily implantology practice

Achievement of proper functional and aesthetic results following implant rehabilitation is, in most cases, impossible without correction of the alveolar ridge, thus hard and soft tissue augmentation is needed. The relevance of this problem has led to a large offer of techniques and materials for tissue optimization in the implantation area. The presentation will show the techniques and materials that have resulted from the selection during a long-term successful implantology practice.

Peer W. Kämmerer – Allogenic grafting materials – a new dimension in bone regeneration?

Autologous grafts are still considered the gold standard for the regeneration of bone defects. However, their availability is limited and sometimes quantities are not sufficient for the specific clinical needs. Furthermore, the possible donor site morbidity and pain for the patient associated with a second surgical site often call for other treatment options. Allogenic, xenogenic or synthetic biomaterials can therefore be a valid alternative to the patient’s own bone.
In this lecture Dr. Dr. Peer W. Kämmerer will show how allogenic grafting materials can be used as an alternative to the patient’s own bone.  He will show various clinical cases in order to illustrate the properties and advantages of these materials. In addition to the “classical” GBR-methods, Priv.-Doz. Dr. Dr. Peer W. Kämmerer will focus on the allogenic shell technique which can be used to treat complex bone defects with minimal morbidity.

Workshop topic: 3-dimensional bone augmentation using the shell technique

The classical shell technique developed by Prof. Khoury has widely been accepted as a reliable bone augmentation technique. However, many clinicians and patients refrain from harvesting autogenous bone blocks from intraoral or extraoral harvesting sites for moderate sized defects.
The use of allogenic cortical plates enables structural bone reconstruction yielding clinically similar results, especially in terms of implant success. In the workshop Peer Kämmerer will address important factors that need to be taken into consideration when handling cortical plates. During the hands-on, different clinical situations will be addressed with the focus on plate positioning and immobilization.

Phoebus N. Madianos – Soft and hard tissue management for successful anterior implant rehabilitation

Replacing missing teeth with implants in the anterior maxilla remains one of the greatest challenges of today’s dentistry, especially in patients with significant aesthetic demands and a high lip line. Recreating the anatomy and morphology of hard and soft tissues is the critical and determining factor for achieving the goal of an esthetic and harmonic restoration.
This presentation will focus on surgical strategies to preserve and reconstruct post-extraction soft and hard tissue deficiencies. Different clinical scenarios will be addressed through a series of cases, including single as well as multiple implant restorations in the anterior maxilla. Surgical techniques involving hard and soft tissue grafting at various stages from extraction to restoration will be presented.

Workshop topic: Alveolar ridge preservation and reconstruction

This hands-on workshop will focus on 1) socket preservation techniques and 2) guided bone regeneration (GBR) for lateral ridge augmentation. In particular, hands on training on pig jaws will include the following:

• Incision design
• Full and partial thickness flap reflection
• Post-extraction socket bone grafting and membrane adaptation
• Soft tissue management at post-extraction sites: Combined free gingival and connective tissue graft harvesting techniques
• Particulate bone grafting and resorbable membrane adaptation in lateral GBR
• Membrane stabilization strategies:
  • Periosteal suturing
  • Membrane fixation with titanium pins
• Suturing techniques for tension-free flap closure
